Goals give us hope. They keep us focused, and help us generate forward momentum for what we want to achieve, and who we want to become. As my mindset mentor, Esther Hicks says...when you know what you don’t want, you know what you do what!
Setting goals, and pursuing our goals, is part of Manifesting a new reality.
Here’s another reality though. For those few who actually dare to pursue their goals and dreams in the first place, most end up quitting or giving up on their goals completely.
Not hitting your goal SUCKS.
Having a dream and never pursuing it is sad. What’s even worse though, is quitting! Quitting sucks... Here’s why:
Everytime you quit or fail to hit your goal, you are strengthening a muscle that I know you don’t want to strengthen. It’s called the quitting muscle. It’s a propensity to not go all the way; to not finish what you start.
- You get distracted by the next shiny object or bright idea.
- You lose your passion for it.
- It gets too hard so it’s no longer fun.
- You don’t know how to achieve it, so you believe you can’t.
- Any of that sound like you?
Whatever explanation you have for quitting, it all comes down to fear. Fear of failure, and fear of being judged.
When fear sets in, we do one of two things: We quit on our goal, or we downgrade it.
When we downgrade our goal to something smaller and less scary -- one you already know how to achieve, and can achieve on your own...you are selling out on yourself.
Small goals (that aren’t a part of a larger vision) keep you small, and don’t require you to stretch outside your comfort zone, which is where personal growth and transformation happens.
If you have a tendency to set small goals, it’s probably because you believe they require less work. But the reality is quite different.
As Dan Sullivan, of Strategic Coach, writes in his book The 10x Mind Expander...a 10x goal is actually easier to achieve then a 2x goal, because it’s possible to achieve 2x by simply working twice as hard. The problem is, a 2x goal doesn’t warrant major growth. And it’s difficult to get or stay excited about something that requires twice the work, for just a small reward.
On the other hand, a 10x goal requires a lot less work -- but the right kind of work. You can’t achieve a 10x goal on your own. It requires support and team. Setting a 10x goal instantly motivates you and makes major change worthwhile.
10x Your Goal
Do you currently have a goal that you want to achieve, but you have no idea how to get there?
That is a good sign!
I set a goal this year that I too have no idea how I’m going to accomplish. And I’m okay with that. Y Not knowing how to get there means I have set a LIFE CHANGING goal!
A few years ago I set a goal to transform my body and to compete in my very first Physique Competition. It scared the crap out of me! And I had no idea how I’d get my body from where it was to where it needed to be. But I had seen others accomplish it so I knew it was possible for me too.
If you already know how to hit your goal, it isn’t big enough.
How did I get there? With a coach! I didn’t need to know how because he did. And with his support and guidance (10x requires team), I made it to the nationals, with 1st and 2nd place finishes along the way.
Set Life Changing goals
Just last year I started my first online coaching business, and set a 6-figure goal for my first year Again, I had NO idea how to make it happen, or how to find ideal clients online. I had experience as an entrepreneur, but not in the online space, I knew I needed team. So I hired a successful business coach who had already accomplished what I desired.. I didn’t need to know how to get to my goal, because she knew how.
Set Yourself Apart From the Pack
If you want something to change in your life, if you want to set a life changing goal - just recognize that it’s going to feel scary and you will not have all the answers, but if you are brave enough to set the BIG 10X goal, and get the support you need to get there... you WILL get there!
Don’t be one of the majority of people that gives up because you can’t wrap your mind around the how. Recognize that as a really good sign. Acknowledge that you need support, that you need team along the way e to help you get there. You won’t (and you shouldn’t) know how to get there on your own
That’s when you know you’ve set a life changing goal.
