PARENTS ARE YOU READY? HALLOWEEN TRICKS TO KEEP YOUR KIDS FROM BOUNCING OFF THE WALLS

It’s that time of year again!

The one-day where kids collect and consume more sugar in an hour’s time than they have all year.

It’s that time of year when all our efforts to control our kids sugar consumption and prevent their tiny teeth from rotting, flies out the door on a bubblegum broomstick.

PARENTS, ARE YOU READY?

While a little sugar never hurt anybody, we certainly know by now that a little more than a “little” CAN. And mom and dad, it mostly hurts us!

If you don’t want your kids bouncing off the walls tomorrow night and the rest of the week, you might want to try one of these clever suggestions I found from parents on MyFitnessPal.

1. “Meet the Switch Witch”
According to Amy Hanney, the Switch Witch comes in the middle of the night and takes most of the candy and replaces it with a small toy, book, or stuffed animal.

(I like this idea. This way parents can control which candies stays and which candies go. And I know my little one always loves a new stuffie.)

2. “The Halloween Fairy
Carlin Fawcett-Jensen says in her family they believe in the Halloween Fairy, who makes the candy disappear (aka garbage) by the morning. The kids get to enjoy several pieces before bedtime, but in the morning it is gone. If that seems a bit extreme, maybe your fairy could provide a two or three day extension.

3. “The Bear-Proof Bag”
Jennifer Chiasson-Steeves allows one piece of candy for dessert, if they’ve eaten all their dinner, throughout the week. She keeps the rest of the bag hanging in the garage out of reach. She says “Out of site, out of mind.”

If YOU have any traditions or tricks you use in your family, please share them here.
